Ollie Howell: Self-Identity
“…simultaneously introspective, groovy, virtuosic and fun — rich and rewarding”
(Arts and Culture, 2017)
Self ‑Identity is Ollie Howell’s follow up album to Sutures and Stitches which was hailed by the Guardian as a “fine debut” with Mojo highlighting the “delicious dynamic flow and an almost elegiac beauty” of the record. Recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World studios in Bath and released via Ropeadope Records, Self-Identity solidifies Ollie as a jazz innovator joining the likes of Christian Scott and Terrace Martin.
“The term ‘Self-Identity’ was originally described to me as “The recognition of one’s potential and qualities as an individual”. The creation of this album began as a quest to discover the different of myself that make me who I am, and my developing identity as a musician. Rather than the discovery of an answer to that question however, this album instead became a document of the first step of that journey, and one that I hope continues to intrigue and define me.” — Ollie Howell
