Le Gateau Chocolat Receives Attitude’s Culture Award, Sings for Dame Shirley Bassey

Le Gateau Chocolat stunned audiences at the iconic Camden Roundhouse on October 11, at the annual Attitude Magazine awards, which celebrate culture, music, and arts, focused on the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. 

Gateau was honoured with the Culture Award at the 2023 ceremony.

“This is an extraordinarily humbling moment. I have read ​‘no fats, no fems, no blacks, no Asians,’ but I stand here tonight, having studied law as a British-Nigerian, as a testament to our progress.”

The night culminated in a tribute performance to Dame Shirley Bassey, whom Gateau – alongside Boy George – presented with the Honorary Gay Award, after giving a spellbinding rendition of This Is My Life, available to watch on Attitude’s Facebook page. 

The music and live performance phenomenon, whose work spans drag, cabaret, opera, musical, children’s theatre and live art, has recently signed with Polyarts for general management in autumn 2023, in partnership with VOICE.
