Edwin Outwater begins an action-packed summer with San Francisco Symphony on 29 June, premiering a new production ‘Get Happy: A Judy Garland Centennial Celebration’ at Davies Symphony Hall. Accompanied by Judy’s rare performance footage, home movies and photographs, this concert brings her legendary songbook to life, featuring Broadway star Jessica Vosk, Olivier Award-winner Andy Karl and drag sensation Peaches Christ.
This is followed by two nights of music on 28 and 29 July, where Edwin and the orchestra join forces with popular duo Pink Martini at Davies Symphony Hall and Stanford’s Frost Amphitheatre. Edwin’s Independence Day collaboration with the orchestra continues for a Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular – a festive outdoor performance at Shoreline Amphitheatre with a crowd-pleasing programme featuring hits by Bernstein and Ellington as well as some Disney favourites. On 9 July, Edwin is joined by award-winning singing sensation Isabel Marie Sánchez for ‘Music of Selena’, filling Davies Symphony Hall with Selena’s greatest hits.
Edwin also travels to Utah to conduct Stewart Copeland’s Police Deranged for Orchestra as part of Utah Symphony Orchestra’s Deer Valley Festival on 1 July, the unique orchestral phenomenon featuring The Police’s greatest hits. He performs again with Utah Symphony alongside Boston alt-rock band Guster on 30 July, bringing their latest album and fan favourites to life at Deer Valley.
On 17 July, Edwin makes his BBC Proms debut at the Royal Albert Hall, conducting BBC Concert Orchestra and award-winning creative sensation Cynthia Erivo through a programme saluting the legendary female voices that have empowered and influenced her career. This prom will be broadcast on BBC Two and available to listen on BBC Sounds.
