Attacca Quartet perform concerts across Spain and the Netherlands, including John Adams mini-residency in Barcelona

John Adams will be present for a mini-residency at the Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona on May 26 and 27, including John’s Book of Alleged Dances, String Quartet and Fellow Traveller. His works will be performed by the Orquesta Sinfonica de Barcelona and he will be joined by the Attacca Quartet, who regularly perform the works of John Adams and according to Adams they “share his musical DNA”. The programme on May 26 will comprise his own works – Short Ride in a Fast Machine, Absolute Jest and Harmonium where the orchestra is joined by the Orfeo Catala.
As part of their visit Attacca will perform a recital at Teatro Liceo in Salamanca on 21 May as well as Fundacion Botin on 28 May with programmes including Avo Part, Caroline Shaw and Takemitsu. A versatile quartet, on 19 May they join fellow Polyarts artist Becca Stevens for a concert with arrangements of her music for voice and quartet at International Music Meeting Festival in Nijmegen, Netherlands where Stevens is the artist in residence.
First prize winners in the 7th Osaka International Chamber Music Competition and top prize winners and Listeners’ Choice award recipients in the 2011 Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, the Attacca Quartet made its professional debut in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and have since enjoyed performances including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lincoln Centre, Festival Centro Historico (Mexico) and Auditorio Nacional de Música (Madrid); they look forward to their Swedish debut at the Gothenburg Konserthuset later this year.
