This week Leticia Moreno joins the Mahler Chamber Orchestra as they embark upon a tour of China under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen in celebration of Sibelius’ 150th birthday year. The performances mark both Moreno’s and Salonen’s debut in China.
The tour opens on 7 October at the Macao International Music Festival and further performances take place on 8 October in Shanghai and on 10 October at the Beijing Music Festival. The programme for all three concerts features Sibelius’ Symphony No.7 and excerpts from Pelléas et Mélisande, Lindberg’s Violin Concerto and Salonen’s Mania for Solo Cello and Ensemble (with Anssi Karttunen).
In addition to the concert performances, the orchestra bring to Macao their award-winning education project, ‘Feel the Music’, which is designed to give hearing impaired children the opportunity to experience music through all their senses.
